In previous years there were only two categories of convertible tops. The high-quality ones, individually and custom-made by the car upholsterer, which were already very expensive back then; as well as questionable cheap imports, mostly from England, Italy and the USA. So the “finished top” didn’t have a particularly good reputation in earlier years and a lot of things needed to be improved.
Since we became active in this sector over 40 years ago, all our efforts have been aimed at combining the price advantage of the prefabricated top with the quality of custom-made products. Over the years, we not only developed precise hood templates for almost all convertible models, which we refined in regular test installations to ensure the optimal fit, but we have also always tried to systematically eliminate possible sources of error in the hoods, which were still largely made by hand at the time.
As early as 1986, we cut the first soft tops to an accuracy of 1/10 mm using computer-controlled systems. We optimized this process back then and introduced it into our series production in 1989. You can therefore expect a quality workmanship standard from our products that is in no way inferior to, or even exceeds, the factory version.
